Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody to Top Line’s Live at Five. My name is Brian Devine and I am happy to have you here today because we are going to talk about something that is relatively new and that is Google posts.
Now, they’ve been around for a while. What is interesting is that it looks like this. New Google posts are going to have a really nice impact on how you are seen and how you can set yourself apart when it comes to people searching for you in Google Maps. So, what are we talking about here with these Google posts? Essentially, Google is now allowing you to go into your Google my business account and that’s sort of, think of it’s as your map listing used to be Google Local. They’re gone through tons of names. But right now, it’s called Google My Business. It’s the one place where you go to control all of your Google stuff really for your business. What you can now do is write a post, kind of like, think of it like an advertisement or an event and it will only last for seven days.
Now, the theory right now is that what Google is doing is they are trying to not only get people to engage with these listings. But, they don’t want these listings to look like a graveyard right, where you put something up once and you cross it off your list and never go back. They want it to be changing and ever evolving. What happens is whenever you create a new post, let’s say seven days have gone by and it’s time for that second, that next post. It will then push the previous one down. Eventually, you’ll have sort of a carousel. People can scroll through that.
So, why would you want to do this? Well, let’s say you’re in an area where you’ve got your competitors, you’re all maybe on the Google map listing. If you search in your local area and you show up well, how do you stand out from the rest, make a Google post.
The best way to use this, obviously, is to just set a schedule for maybe ,every Monday or every Friday to put up a new post. So, that way you won’t ever just be without the post. So, if you can put that on a schedule, then, you know, stand out from your competition.
Now, let me show you what this looks like. I just found one recently and I want you to kind of see this. Dr. Larson, I don’t know you. I hope you don’t mind if I’m showing this. It’s just it struck me when I saw it. But essentially, here is the post down here. What you’ll notice is a couple things,number one is he put a border around it which i think is a great idea because this really causes it to stand out it. Almost looks like Google is doing something to say, “Hey, pay attention to this!” But, this is in the image. This is the image itself and then some text in the image. Then, you can, you know, put more text, less stats but somebody can click on it and actually get a little further in. You see the dot dot dot and in this case it had been posted eight hours ago. So, that’s how you know that Google is really staying on top of this. They are going to track when you click your post live. Then, in seven days, man they are going to take it down. So, that’s why you want to make sure you put something in place to do that on a regular basis. So, what can you do with these posts?
Now, I just showed you one and this one it was about, it was educational. I think that’s a really good idea that you have sort of a way to rotate your different types of posts. If you put down a schedule where you say we’re going to have an educational post and then we’re going to have an offer post and then we’re going to have a local event post and you kind of you lay this out and you say, “Okay, here are the four different or five different types of post we’re going to put.” I think one of them is a coupon, you know, you can do Invisalign. You can do back pain. You, I mean, there’s so many ways to take advantage of this. Because, it’s so new, most people don’t even know that it’s there yet. That means, that you get to completely stand out from the crowd.

You and I both know how valuable being on map listing is and to be able to stand out. If you’re in an area where there’s 40 of you all competing for the three spots and somebody clicks on that little seam or in the map listings, you’re going to stand out even if you’re not in the top three. You are going to completely stand out from the crowd.
