Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody to Top Line Live at Five. My name is Brian Devine here with Top Line. And today, we’re going to be talking about the Google map listings. And how ranking in those has changed? Now, Google map listing is what I typically try to use when talking with clients about the Google maps and so it used to be, you know, Google plus local and Google places. Now, it’s Google my business. So the way most people can remember it and think about it is the Google map listings.


Now, when we’re talking about the Google map lifts things, the most important part, the coveted positions are what we call the three packs and that is where your listing will show up in a search result in that little three packs that is right there on the Google search page. Now, you might hear people talk about what it is called SERPs. ¬†And so when you hear things like SERPs being thrown around, what we mean our search engine result pages. So if I make that mistake of saying SERPs. I want you to know that that means the search engine results page. When somebody does a search on Google, they get that results page and we call those eight SERPs.

In that results page, you have those little three packs of the map listings, and they are extremely valuable and the way that you can rank there and show up there changes periodically. The amount of weight given to different types of activities that we can put in place for you, for our clients, for anybody that out there just wants to learn. That’s what keeps on changing and I want to make sure that you know that there is one fundamental thing that has not changed, that still has a significant amount of weight of value when it comes to getting your listing to show up in that results page, in that little three pack in the Google map listing or the Google my business listing, whatever you’d like to call it. That is your reviews.

Reviews are still a huge factor in getting into that, that listing. And I don’t just mean that, if you get a hundred reviews tomorrow, you will somehow show up into that listing. No, it’s about consistency and what I want to make clear here is that what we’re finding is that Google loves Google and the more Google stuff that you can give Google to show you that you are the authority, that you are the person who should be in that three pack, in that map listing. Then you are going to show up and getting reviews on a regular consistent basis is going to do more as far as we have seen. Then getting a whole bunches all at once and that’s something that just hasn’t changed and that’s something that you can start doing. Or if you have started and stopped, please start doing it again. And that is to consistently get reviews, and you’ll see that some people them might not have a whole lot of reviews yet, but because they’re getting reviews on a regular basis. Then they’re going to show up better than somebody who has, let’s say a hundred and 50 reviews. And they got them all in a very short period of time. I say two or three months now, obviously, they did a big campaign. It worked. They got them. They probably showed up in the map listing, but they didn’t keep doing it, so they start to reduce in value. In other words, when somebody has 20 or 30 reviews, but they’ve been getting consistently over the course of six or eight months, that’s going to be worth more than the person that got it really fast. So I want you thinking about what is your process, how are you getting those reviews and how are you making sure that they consistently come in on Google my business with a Google map, listings, whatever it is it that we’re calling it today.

The other things that still matter that are still important. Our citations, you probably heard me talk about citations before. Those are just places on the Internet, outside of your website and outside of Google that have the name, address and phone number of your practice that are showing that Google has the right information and that you are an authority. So having the right ones of those and not just having thousands of them, but having the right ones can be extremely effective as well. And then I mentioned earlier that Google loves Google. Well that means that we’re finding the more Google properties that we show Google are pointing to your listing, they are putting into your map listing will help elevate it and there is a whole long conversation about how that works and why it works and what it’s all about.

However, I want you to just always remember that the one thing that you still have complete control over and you don’t have to have to do anything else is getting those reviews and get them coming in consistently so that when people are looking you up, they will find good positive reviews. They will come to your website, they will pick up the phone and call the schedule, and all of that is being tracked by Google as well. So when Google is seeing that process, you will then show up better in those search results pages. All right, that’s what I wanted to cover today.
