Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody to Top Line Live at Five. My name is Brian Devine here with Top Line. And today, we’re going to be talking about reviews online. I know you’ve heard it from me before, but this time I want to cover something slightly different and that is the big question of when should you start actively trying to get those online reviews.

Now, before I answer the question, let me back up a little bit why we’re talking about it. I had a conversation very recently with a client about a negative review. And those negative reviews, I don’t care who you are. They hurt, they’re hard to take. Nobody wants them and they’re expensive. When you think about it, you know you get a bad review then; you’ve got a whole lot of work to do to kind of combat it and make sure that you’ve got enough positive reviews to make that not seem as relevant. And if you’re the client that hired recently talked to this is not to say that you’ve done anything different, wrong, and unusual. This happens all the time and it’s that you get this negative review, and you now have to do all of this stuff and scrambled to really make that not as relevant.

The good news is┬ábecause this was a client, they have things in place. They had good reviews as well as the one negative, so it’s not nearly as bad as if you had no reviews. Now, I want you to imagine that you have no reviews on a site like Yelp and you get one negative scathing reviews, some from somebody who’s just upset with the world and it doesn’t matter what you do or what you did, they were going to be upset and you happen to be the one that they’re upset with. And now, it’s going to cost you all this time and money, and now the only review people see isn’t a negative one. That’s what we don’t want to have happened.

So the answer to the question, when should you start getting those positive reviews? The answer is yesterday, last month, not today, and that is the whole point of the conversation today. Once you’ve gotten that terrible negative review that we’re all going to get, we all make mistakes. Things go wrong. You have somebody that just is going to be upset with the world and you can’t make it right when that person says something terrible about you online. If you haven’t been working actively to get positive reviews for a very long time, you’ve got a lot of work to do and it’s really hard to overcome and it’s going to take time. Doesn’t mean we can’t do it. We absolutely can do it. You can get through it. You can get past it. It’s just I don’t want you to be in that situation. I would much rather you are in the same situation as the client who already had good reviews.

Now, what we’re doing is we’re making sure that we have good reviews flowing now, so more and more reviews coming in so that one negative review just doesn’t carry a lot of weight. Now, when you were thinking about when to start, I want you to start now if you haven’t already and the longer you have a system in place to get reviews, when you do inevitably get that one negative, terrible, unhappy review, it’s still going to stay and it’s going to hurt your heart. You’re not going to like it, but it’s not going to cost you nearly as much time, effort, and angst as it would if you didn’t have any reviews.

If you’ve got two or three negative reviews and you didn’t even know it and they’re out there and people are finding them, and so they’re not calling you somebody getting a recommendation to go see you. They look you up. They see their reviews. They don’t call. That is what I don’t want to have happened, so make sure you have a system in place to get those positive reviews on a regular basis. It’s not about doing some big, big campaign, getting 40 or 50 reviews tomorrow and then stopping. That’s not nearly as valuable as content consistently getting those positive reviews week after week, day after day, month after month so that Google and all the other search engines are seeing this reputation building. They’re seeing your authority and so do the prospective patients when they go look you up, no matter where they go, they are seeing a positive trend or seeing all of these good reviews about who you are and what you do and what you stand for and that’s what I want for you.

If we can help, we’re here to help. If you have a system maybe collecting dust and you just haven’t been using, dusted off, start using it again. I’ve noticed it is absolutely worth it. Do not let that slip and even if you have good reviews on it, and you’ve got a great star rating. But you’re not consistently getting more, that negative review is going to hurt a lot more than if you just consider consistently getting positive use. All right, that’s the whole thing that I wanted to cover today. Well, let me know if you have any questions. Let me know what we can do to support you, and if you have some questions about how we can help you with reviews, we’re happy to talk to you about that anytime. And I look forward to seeing you next time on Top Line Live at Five. That’s it for me. Bye for now.
